Gaffa Tape Sandy Vs GDPR

It's difficult to know what has been the high point of this week so far: making our website GDPR compliant or the arrival of Meat Head - the new single by garage rock power trio Gaffa Tape Sandy. It was close, but it's impossible to get bored with GDPR, right? So why not head to the antigen site and check out our very lengthy privacy policy or the double opt-in security feature on our newsletter sign-up page. If that hasn't sated your appetite for excitement, Meat Head will be available digitally on 29 June 2018, with a 7" single to follow in August. The 7" will be backed with fan-favourite Beehive, which has become the second most popular song we've released on Spotify (after Dreams by SuperGlu). Both tracks were recorded and mixed by the exceptionally talented Mr George Perks. And here's a preview of the great sleeve art by Emily Allen.

Tyburnia tour diary unearthed

Back in 2015, Dead Rat Orchestra and director James Holcombe took their Tyburnia collaboration on an 18-date tour of the UK, preforming at venues close to sites of execution. Holcombe created a psychogeographical tour diary, using the same analogue editing and photo-chemical processing techniques he employed on the Tyburnia film. It completely escaped our notice until now. Tyburnia Tour 2015 from Dead Rat Orchestra on Vimeo. If you happen to be reading this on the day of posting (10th April 2018) and you live within easy reach of London Town, you may still have the opportunity to see the the…

April 8th

15 years ago today, Dead Rat Orchestra played their first gig, at Colchester Arts Centre, supporting Montreal-based duo Hanged Up (Constellation Records). Unhurried by the audience’s expectations of entertainment, the trio created a 40-minute improvised piece with swelling waves of harmonic distortion, unearthly insectoid chittering and metallic glissandi, rhythmically underpinned by loosely-interlocking loops and glitching music boxes. To understate the obvious: the performance provided little evidence of the group’s future interest in traditional folk music. On the 15th anniversary of that first performance, we painstakingly remastered the audio track for inclusion in the forthcoming Hopewell Sound 4-CD box-set, which will…

Gaffa Tape Sandy festival tour

Garage rock power trio Gaffa Tape Sandy hit the festival circuit to promote their forthcoming single (details TBA). As they still have the boundless energy of youth, they've decided to kick off their festival tour with two on the same day. Starting with a 4pm performance at Live at Leeds, followed by a 3-hour drive back to rural Suffolk, to headline the Bury Fringe All-Dayer.  I pity the poor dad who has to chauffeur them on that 350-mile round trip on the A1. Nathaniel Robin Mann – Scraps 2 CD and book

A long, long time ago, before the highly controversial pigeon whistles project, before joining the ex-Gurkhas of the 1st Naumati Baja Gulmi UK, before he finally disappeared into the Brazilian jungle to make music with Wauja indigenous community of Xingu Province, Nathaniel Robin Mann / Animateddog actually wrote and recorded songs. Like a normal singer-songwriter. It sounds ridiculous now, but it's true. To prove it, in 2012, we released a 20-track compilation CD of his early material, including five specially-commissioned studio tracks and an Mbira song set recorded by Sherry Ostapovitch, soundtrack material from his work with director Mike Day, live tracks recorded by Peter Memmer in Madrid, and selected demos from his personal archive.
