Pissabed Prophet – Waspdrunk Tour

Every summer, the Daily Mail issues dire warnings to readers about the dangers of leaving the house. “Britain is under attack from ‘drunk and irritable’ wasps who are going on ‘stinging rampages’ after drinking cider in pub gardens because they have run out of food.” Surprisingly, this time there is science behind the Mail’s frothing hysteria. Worker wasps slave to feed soft bodied invertebrates to the queen and her larval young, but are unable to digest solid food themselves due to their tiny waists. Instead, they rely on a trickledown of fluid secreted by the larvae. When the queen stops producing eggs, this source of nourishment dries up and the worker wasps find themselves without food, quite literally dying for a pint. Unfortunately, wasps are notorious lightweights and make for belligerent drunks.

Pissabed Prophet celebrate the booze-fuelled end-of-life antics of the humble wasp, by heading out on a musical rampage across East Anglia. If you’ve spent most of your adult life supporting an old queen’s grubby offspring, only to end up in food poverty, reduced to lapping up stale cider from a pub garden ashtray, now is your chance to show solidarity with these hard working insects.
