Mick Squalor back in the tabloids

Max Clifford may be in jail, but his legacy of carefully-choreographed media manipulation lives on, as Mick Squalor’s 120 mile journey to visit his girlfriend has inexplicably become news, a couple of days in advance of his appearance at the 2nd Festival of Untidiness in Reading.

The Dingus Khan frontman has conveniently found himself in the papers again, by embarking on a trip without a map or directions and unsurprisingly taking much longer than would normally be expected to get there. The story has clogged newsfeeds, provoked a Heart FM phone-in and left the celebrity couple fending off unwanted attention from Women’s Weekly.

The reports of Squalor’s “amorous adventures” have provoked a mixed response from his Dingus Khan bandmates: “I’ve just been sick all down myself,” typed bassist Tom Armstrong in disgust, in a thread used to discuss the timetable for the band’s next single. Drummer Gaz merely seemed perplexed that a man riding a perfectly serviceable motorbike through four counties could be in any way newsworthy. How much he has to learn…
