You wait three months for a new release and then three come along at once…
More grovelling apologies for failing to keep the site up to date, but we have been really busy… honestly. When antigen records started, our remit was to document and preserve the offbeat, original and unusual music of East Anglia. We’ve staggered into exciting new realms over the years, but it is a real pleasure to return to our roots with our latest batch of releases.
We are privileged to be in a position to reissue the first three EPs by the Dead Rat Orchestra, to celebrate 10 years of free-folk freakery from this trio of wood-worrying beardies. They have been merrily exploring the outer reaches of acoustic music for the best part of a decade, and have recently received long-overdue national recognition for their soundtrack to the BBC documentary The Guga Hunters of Ness.
However, it is their uproarious live show that has built their reputation. These three live recordings were available on CDr from the band in very limited numbers and have become highly sought-after collectors’ items. We will be reissuing St. Martins, Palimpsest Festival 2006 and Ghostband With Mt View Memorial Choir on CD on 30 October 2012, to coincide with the first date of their new European tour. More details very soon.
If you can’t wait that long, we still have copies of Rat-related audio in the webstore. Daniel Merrill is one-half of Sons of Joy, whose Songs of Joy has received some very nice reviews in the folk press.
