C Joynes and Dead Rat Orchestra present the first fruits of a new collaboration at the New Wolsey Studio in Ipswich on Friday 4 April. The boys will be presenting a completely new set of tunes “inspired, scavenged and half-remembered” by Chris Joynes, during his extensive global travels… presumably in developing countries with very lax copyright enforcement. Luckily, with the Dead Rats accompanying him, the songs are probably going to be unrecognisable.
The project even gets a brief mention in this month’s Wire, as Clive Bell reflects upon the influence ethnographic recordings have upon the creative process. Typically, you wait 11 years for a mention in the Wire and then two come along at once.
In addition to the main event, the evening will feature solo performances by C Joynes, Nathaniel Robin Mann, Daniel Merrill, Harpoon Group (Robin Alderton) and Nick Jonah Davis.
Update: video evidence is now here.
