Description

In 2017, the 1st Naumati Baja Gulmi UK collaborated with Nathaniel Mann (of Dead Rat Orchestra) to form the Nepali and English Joint Traditional Musical Band. They recorded an unreleased concept album themed around wild west showman and early pioneer of manned flight, Charles Franklin Cody. The album premiered at Anvil Arts in Basingstoke on 2 April 2017, an event attended by Nepalese ambassador to the UK, Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi, who was inspired to announce, “This is a wonderful example of the British and my Nepalese brothers and sisters. This is a very good sign of integration of my community to the mainstream British society.”

To thank them for their contribution to the project, Nathan financed and supervised the recording and production of a second album, featuring the band performing traditional Nepalese ceremonial music, using the instruments band leader Mr Om Prasad Thapa had rescued from Nepal following the Maoist insurgency. This is that album.

The albums were donated to the band in 2017 to aid their fundraising efforts for the Hope Disability Centre in Gulmi, Nepal. We recently unearthed a single box of these during a delve into the antigen archive. All money from physical sales will be donated to the Hope centre.
