El-Wekala UK launched
El-Wekala-UK launched this week; a cross-cultural production company, set up by Amina Aboudoma, Ahmed Selim and our great friend Daniel Merrill of Dead Rat Orchestra. It specialises in collaborative arts and entertainment, bringing together musicians and artists from the UK and the Arab Mediterranean region and Middle East.
One of their first projects is to bring Egyptian prog behemoths Massar Egbari back to the UK. You can see them perform live at an open air concert at Trafalgar Square today, at the New Art Exchange with Dead Rat Orchestra in Nottingham tomorrow and at Colchester Arts Centre on 31 July, where they will be supported by Tropic of Xhao and Rev Simpkins & the Phantom Notes.
Yes, it is the long awaited return of the newly-ordained Reverend Simpkins – one half of Sons of Joy and a man who once claimed to be too naughty to follow his father into the Anglican church.
